I finished up my End of the Weak journey throughout Uganda. The Northern
competition was the best, though I disliked the venue and radio people
the most. The East was fun because I was able to swim in the Nile in my
downtime and I enjoyed the people I worked with. The West was the best
environmentally as it reminded me very much of Cape Town, South Africa
with rolling hills and giant clouds. The people I worked with there
were also great guides. Though I faced many challenges and was
thoroughly exhausted most of the time, Burney MC and I hustled our asses
off to get auditions set up and run the MC Challenge the same day or
days after. We went to the areas to scout talent and set up the venue,
promotion and other requirements for a Hip Hop competition, then would
return a week or two weeks later to run the events. Despite many hours
spent on long bus rides (sometimes we sat int he bus park 2 hours before
the wheels ever rolled forward), many late nights and early mornings,
we accomplished the End of the Weak movement throughout Uganda. The end
of April found Burney and I running the EOW Challenge of Champions with 3
emcees from Kampala, CYNO, Rugged Made and M33 competing with KY from
Mbarara (West), Mac Ten from Jinja (East) and MC Rock from Lira (North)
to get a representative to go to the World Finals in Berlin this July.
CYNO took the competition, as his stage presence and lyrical content
impressed most people, but most importantly the judges. Now the guys
are busy hustling to get their passports and numerous pages of paperwork
filled out to go on their international journey.
